The Grand Wales Adventure begins. Renting a log cabin in Dinas Mawddwy (around 8 miles from Dolgellau) gave Echo, Hedgie, and myself a good central hub to lots of nice places to visit as we took a 4 night stay in the middle of North Wales. While station pupping wasn’t the pure reason for visiting, I had wanted to celebrate my birthday by visiting LLanfair PG, aka Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Plus there are some nice narrow gauge railways I’d not visited since I was a young pup, so I wanted to revisit a couple of them and see how things had changed. But, since we were visiting LLanfair PG during this visit, I also wanted to visit the station that tried to take the crown of longest railway station name – so a trip to the Fairbourne Railway was planned.
We arrived on the Saturday and made short work of going exploring. On Sunday we jumped in the car and went to the railway. We did get sidetracked briefly, however, as we arrived earlier than expected. We founds a nice spot for a beach-side walk. So we parked up and made our way to the beach, crossing a railway line as we did so. From the crossing, I could see a station a short way down the track, so after we’d spent some time skimming stones and looking at the shoreline, we can back and headed to the station. The Pup All The Stations Grand Wales Adventure had begun.
The station had something that stood out straight away. It was full of knitted things. From creatures to people, there was a lot of knitting that had gone on. We weren’t sure if this was the normal day-to-day for the station, or if there was some kind of event on, but handmade things were everywhere. That made the station kinda special, especially as it was the first one for the day, and one that wasn’t even planned. Photo collected, we bundled back into the car and headed the short distance to the Fairbourne Railway.
