When I found out there was a little branch line near Paddington that split off from the main line before vanishing into tunnels that used to be owned by the Northern Line, I jumped at the chance to visit it during our trip around the Circle Line. Echo was baffled by the concept of full-sized trains in tunnels that used to be part of the Underground network, but as we saw a class 313 standing in Platform 10 the truth was confirmed. Originally this had been part of the national network, but was taken over by the Northern Line, and then passed back into BR hands. And now we were standing in it. And there was a bloody great train in it. Not a dinky little Underground train, but a full fat normal (and heavily in need of some TLC) train. It waited around for a few minutes before leaving us and letting us get a good look at the track and the little cubbyhole area at the end of the tunnel. It felt odd being at Tunnel’s End, with a brick wall not too far away from where the train had stopped. Platform 9 had even less of a runoff space. We got our photos, and then went on. We would return here in a couple of weeks time to run the Moorgate to Drayton Park line, with Hedgie in tow.
