The last station on the list, and it was the station that was originally not meant to be stopped at. The original plan Shades and I had drafted had resulted in the jaunt back from Twickenham going via Clapham Junction. However, we had been late leaving at the start of the day so the return journey involved retracing our steps. This had the benefit of changing trains at Feltham to get a train heading for the Chertsey branch. It did also mean we only had ten minutes to jump off the train, grab the photo, and be ready to jump on the next train. Nothing like a little bit of time pressure to make things exciting.
Getting to Feltham was the one and only time we didn’t travel on a 450 Class unit, instead getting a nice and spacious 458 Class. One short zoom later and we were getting off the train again. Shades had become guardian of the sausage rolls we had purchased at Twickenham for eating on the train home so I gathered myself together so he could take the photo and ensure food didn’t make a break for freedom. One quick snap later and our train home was pulling in. Another 450.
The train once again used the less-often-used bit of track to join back up to the mainline before Byfleet & New Haw, this time diving under the mainline through a little underpass. Really quite glad we had been delayed or I might have never got to ride those rails. There will be return trips however, as there’s plenty of stations along those lines I still need to visit. Hopefully some more can be crossed off during summer. We shall see.
